Gurugram: A long-standing demand of the residents to open a medical college and hospitals in Gurugram has been approved by the Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. A 300-bed medical college and hospital will be a raising hope of people to get high-end medical facilities. According to the government, the college would be set up with 100 MBBS seats.

However, a provision would be made to increase the number of seats to 200. In addition, the college would have a dental college with 100 BDS seats and provision of MD or MS and MDS courses in the future. Last month, Khattar had said that the number of MBBS seats in medical colleges of the State had increased from 700 in the year 2014 to 1,450 in 2019.

“We welcome medical college decision, there are lots of land for medical college near Daulatabad village, Ghamadauj and Manesar Gram Panchayat. There is no land crisis in Gurugram. The village Panchayats are ready to scarifies there land for medical collage” says Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Gurugram MLA Umesh Aggarwal.

“There has been a long-standing demand from the area residents who have to travel either to Safdarjung or AIIMS in New Delhi as they cannot afford medical facilities at private hospitals,” he added. Reports state that the hospital/medical college will be built in Sector 102 of Gurugram and will be named after Sheetla Mata.

In future, the capacity will later be upgraded to 500 beds from 300. There has been a long-standing demand from the area residents who have to travel either to Safdarjung or All Indian Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in New Delhi as they cannot afford medical facilities at private hospitals.

The proposal was passed by the Municipal Corporation  Deputy Commissioner TL Satyaprakash took the initiative to pass the medical college proposal by Municipal Corporation. According to this proposal Corporation will provide Rs 60 crore. In addition, Sheetla Mata Shrine Board agreed to provide Rs 100 crore.

The State health ministry has taken over the land from municipal corporation. Haryana government has also issued consultation form and has released a fund of Rs 500 crore for the project. Khattar-led government plans to start the medical college within three years time.

At present, Gurugram has two government hospitals – civil hospital at civil lines and one at sector 10. The Civil hospital remains crowded and the infrastructure is insufficient to cater to the rush. Millennium City has large hospitals like Medanta, Fortis and Artemis, but ordinary public cannot avail the facility.
