Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Death Anniversary: Martyrdom day of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee being observed on today, June 23rd. An learned scholar, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee is credited with founding the precursor to the modern-day Bharatiya Janata Party. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders on Sunday paid homage to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh on his 66th Death Anniversary.

The party paid tribute and called Mukherjee a noble patriot, a true worshipper of humanity and a fierce educationist.


"Remembering Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his Balidan Divas. A devout patriot and proud nationalist, Dr Mukherjee devoted his life for India's unity and integrity," Mr Modi tweeted. Prime Minister also wrote that the Late Mukherjee's "passion for a strong and united India continues to inspire us and gives us strength to serve 130 crore Indians".

BJP ideologue and Jana Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, was born in on 6th of July, 1901 in West Bengal's Kolkata, had fully endorsed article 370 of the constitution which guarantees a special status to Jammu and Kashmir, the state's ruling National Conference said Thursday.

Union Home Minister and BJP chief Amit Shah also paid tributes to the Late Mukherjee. Both Mr Shah and party's newly appointed Working President J P Nadda paid floral tributes to "great patriot" Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder at the party headquarters here.

In his Twitter missive, Mr Shah recalled Mukherjee's contribution in ensuring One Nation, One Constitution norms in Jammu and Kashmir. "If today we have a permit-less system in Jammu and Kashmir, it is because of Syama Prasad Mukherjee" he tweeted in Hindi.

BJP Working President JP Nadda took to Twitter and wrote, "The whole country demanded an inquiry into Dr. #ShyamaPrasadMukherjee's death, but Pandit Nehru did not order an inquiry. History is witness to this. Dr.Mukherjee's sacrifice will never go in vain, BJP is committed to this cause.

In his missive in the micro blogging site, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, also a former BJP chief, wrote: "My humble tributes to the Jana Sangha founder, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his punyatithi. His immense contribution to our country will always be remembered."



Meanwhile, the West Bengal government on Saturday announced that it will observe the death anniversary of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on Sunday. A letter issued by the Information and Cultural Affairs department of the state government stated, "State Government will observe the death anniversary of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on June 23 at 11:30 AM at the Keoratala burning ghat, Kolkata."

Mukherjee was born in Kolkata. He was the founder of Jan Sangh. He was Minister of Commerce and Industries from 1951 to 1952.
