West Bengal: An explosion was reportedly heard outside the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Barrackpore, Arjun Singh, in West Bengal. News agency ANI reported that unidentified miscreants hurled a bomb at the residence of the BJP MP on Wednesday.

Bullets were also fired outside the residence which falls under Jagatdal police station limits in North 24 Parganas district on late Wednesday evening.

Bhatpara, considered to be the stronghold of former TMC MLA Arjun Singh, witnessed tension in the city. A complaint was later registered with the police about the incident and investigation is underway.

In the state, violence has not ceased to exist even after the conclusion of Lok Sabha elections. During general elections, the BJP and the TMC were involved in violent clashes during all the seven phases. Both the parties frequently traded blame over the issue. Ever since Arjun Singh crossed over from the TMC to the BJP and won the Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat, the area has been witnessing tensions.
