Miffed ICC president Kamal plans legal action against ICC
New Delhi: The International Cricket Council’s decision to keep him out of the prize distribution ceremony hasn’t gone down well with ICC president Mustafa Kamal. Maintaining the tradition, the winner’s trophy is usually handed over to the winning team by the president of the world body, but on Sunday, usurping the powers of the president, chairman N Srinivasan went ahead with the ceremony.

Despite being present at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, Kamal was not allowed to be a part of the prize distribution programme, and this has left the Bangladesh administrator fuming. According to a report by Ananda Bazar Patrika, Kamal is now even planning to file a legal complaint against his own institution. “I will go back to Bangladesh, consult with my lawyers and will also have a word with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina about this. This is unconstitutional and can’t be accepted,” Kamal told the newspaper.
According to the rules of ICC, the president Mustafa Kamal should have done the honours, but unhappy with the Bangladesh official's outrage following India’s quarter-final victory, Srinivasan decided to go ahead with the ceremony.
The ICC constitution clearly states that the president will present trophies at global competitions, and according to sources, things changed on Saturday after an informal ICC meeting on Saturday. Sources indicated that Kamal was ‘insulted’ twice during the meeting and questions were also raised over his ability as the ICC president. Kamal (who is Bangladesh's minister for planning)’s ‘conduct’ came up for discussion too.
The ICC president had flak after he told ABP News that the umpiring decisions went in India’s favour during the quarter-finals match and that move was deliberate. But that didn’t go down well with the ICC bosses, and now they decided to usurp Kamal’s position by asking him to stay away from the award ceremony.
