Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Radha Krishna Mathur's swearing-in ceremony

Updated 31 Oct 2019 08:09 AM

Under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been divided into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, from midnight. Radha Krishna Mathur is the new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. This is for the first time that a state is converted into two UTs even though there are numerous example of a UT becoming a full state or a state bifurcating into two states. The Centre will be in direct control of the police and the law and order in Jammu and Kashmir from Thursday when it becomes a UT.
