A major fire broke out in a telephone exchange building in Mumbai's suburban Bandra area on Monday, civic officials said. Fire broke out at the MTNL exchange building at S V Road in suburban Bandra in the afternoon. PTI quoted an official as saying that around 40 people could be trapped on the terrace of the building. A short circuit in the building triggered off the blaze, which first engulfed the third and fourth floor of the building. Fire engines rushed to the spot, an official said.

As per latest reports from the incident, fire brigade officials had rescued around 15 people from the terrace of the building with the help of a crane. Around 25 people are still believed to be stranded.

The blaze has been classified as Level-4 and 14 fire tenders are present at the spot, ANI reported.
