New Delhi: UK Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday expressed concerns about rising tensions between India and Pakistan after the latter violated Indian air space in response to a counter terrorism operation by India.

Responding to the current state of affairs, May said that UK is deeply concerned about rising tensions between the two countries and called for an urgent restraint on both sides to avoid further escalation.

“We’re in regular contact with both countries, urging dialogue and diplomatic solutions to ensure regional stability”, May said.

“We are working closely with international partners including through the UN Security Council to de-escalate tensions and are monitoring developments closely and considering implications for British nationals”, she said.

Earlier US, China and Russia have also urged the two neighboring countries to exercise maximum restraint.

Amid escalating tensions after India destroyed the JeM's biggest training camp, the IAF today chased away intruding Pakistani fighter jets in Jammu and Kashmir's Nowshera sector and shot down a Pakistani F-16 which fell on their side. Pakistan used its Air Force to target military installations in India but their attempts were foiled successfully, the MEA said, adding that India has lost one MiG 21 and one of its pilots is "missing in action".

After India struck down Paksitan’s fighter jet, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan again proposed India for dialogue and repeated that Islamabad is ready to cooperate with New Delhi over Pulwama terror attack investigation.
